Hearts of Stone

Ezekiel 11:19

“I will give them an undivided heart and put a new spirit in them; I will remove from them their heart of stone and give them a heart of flesh.
**************************

This week, Holy Week, is about change.  Up to the point where this week ends, all of humanity was living in a set of old ways.  These ways were about counting things done and not done; finding mechanisms to make yourself holy and worthy; using things from the outside to make sacrifices for penance.

The end result of Jesus’ life on earth was about changing all of this. It became simple: love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all of your soul and with all of your strength; and love your neighbors as yourself.  We are worthy solely because God loves us.  If we Confess our sins, have a contrite and repentant heart, we will be forgiven.

As we have moved through this Holy Lent, our hearts have been changed from hardened places of fear, rules and judgment to open spaces of peace, love and forgiveness.  We are filled with the spirit of the light, not of darkness; of eternity, not of the world.

Feel our hearts change.

Heavenly Father –

You offer to us a great gift of change.  We have the opportunity to be renewed and refreshed by Your love.

Give us a spirit of openness that we might experience the blessings You would give, if we but only accept them fully into our lives.

Keep us mindful of those around us who are shining Your light that we might accept the warmth and brightness of Your Word.

Change us, Lord.

In Christ’s name, we pray,

Amen.
