Beautiful Creation

Psalm 40:5

“Many, Lord my God, are the wonders you have done, the things you planned for us.  None can compare with you; were I to speak and tell of your deeds, they would be too many to declare.”

When I finished my run this morning, I was standing in the driveway giving thanks for my week and for God giving me the spirit to be a runner.  As a part of my morning post-run prayer, I always take a moment to praise God for His marvelous creation.

Think about it for a moment; every day, we have an opportunity to spend time in a world full of the most intricately beautiful scenes.  A glorious sunrise; a gentle rain; bright sun shining through green leaves; waves lapping on a sandy beach.  When I see these things, it’s hard to believe that random genetics and chemical processes coming together over millennia could make it happen.  It’s just too perfect.

We brush by, forget to look, are too busy or just ignore the beauty around us every day .  The opportunity to be amazed is just a moment away.  Seek it, take it in and be renewed.

Lord God,
Your Glory shines on us every day in the beauty of your creation.  Your gift is so pleasing to us, infinite and simple at the same time.
Thank you for the beauty of Your creation.  For the morning sun, the breeze, the fragrant flowers. All of these things, Lord, You provide to us and ask nothing in return.
Help us to remember that we are stewards of this creation.  Give us the spirit to be mindful of ways to keep it healthy, fresh and alive.
I offer you praise, God, for the gift of spring to which you are bringing to us soon.
In His Name, I pray,
Amen.

  1. I don't remember what grade I was in but what I do remember is the science teacher saying our BIG project for the year is an insect collection. The more different types of insects you collect the better your grade will be. I went out round our neighborhood searching high and low for all of the insects I could find. Through that project and my time in Boy Scouts grew a great appreciation of nature and all of God's creatures and the wonder at how it ALL fits together. This post reminded me of all of the time I spent searching meadows, creeks, woods, forests, hills, valleys, trees, stumps, dirt, sand, under rocks, in wood piles, etc. for another insect for my collection... and through it all enjoying the beauty God created.
