John 8:58
“ ‘Very truly I tell you,’ Jesus answered, ‘before Abraham was born, I am!’ ”
***********************
At the end of this eighth chapter of John’s Gospel, we see Jesus in a dialogue with the local Jewish people who did not believe in Him.
He works His way through the conversation, giving them examples as to why they are not true to the teachings of the patriarchs they hold in high regard. The dialogue gets sharper and more direct. To wrap it up, Jesus tells them that He has been there since the beginning of time.
Bold!
Of course, He is the Son of God, He has the right to say these things, but He brings it straight to the point. He is the one.
His words and actions encourage us to be bold. We can step out and state our faith unabashedly in our actions and with our words.
Dear God –
You do not call us into a life of quiet faith.
You have given us examples of living boldly for you, not just in the Bible, but in Christian men and women we see in our own time.
Give us a heart which is on fire for You. Help us to move forward in our lives fearlessly standing for You.
We thank you for a spirit of passion, filling us with Your love.
In the name of Your Son, Jesus Christ, we pray,
Amen.
